Clenbuterol

Clenbuterol is a fascinating drug in that its properties are selective to fat cells. In fact, its technical definition is termed as a selective beta -2- agonist. What that means in plain English is that it hits specific receptors and in the case of clenbuterol, being an asthma medication, it targets the bronchial airway passages. So what does this have to do with bodybuilding? Well, there’s another interesting side effect to Clenbuterol. It burns fat – fast! It does so by increasing metabolism, decreasing appetite and elevating body temperature to the point where fat cells literally melt. Clen can do what almost no other drug (except the extraordinarily dangerous DNP) can do. It will lower bodyfat percentage faster and greater than can possibly be accomplished with just diet and exercise.

Clen is extremely popular with athletes where speed and endurance is a factor. (Which is pretty much every sport). But it’s especially popular among competitive bodybuilders due to the fat dissolving properties. Recreational use of Clen is widespread for everything from all night partying to losing weight before hitting the beach. But Clen is not something to be used is a casual manner. It’s an extremely potent drug that greatly increases the risk of a heart attack. And that isn’t just from abuse. Even at the recommended dosages for fat loss, Clen is one substance that presents serious consequences.

In spite of the media hysteria surrounds steroids, there haven’t been any deaths directly resulting from their use. But in the case of Clenbuterol, there are dozens each year. And the numbers are going up. In many ways, the risks are similar to the banned substance, ephredra. No wonder, since they’re very similar structurally, though ephedra is a more “crude” version. By that, it’s fair to say Ephedra hits several receptors therefore it isn’t as selective. Both drugs will accelerate fat loss but Clen does it better. There more of a rebound effect with ephedra (in fact, it slows the metabolism to the point where you may gain weight after cessation of use), whereas Clens effects are longer lasting. It’s important to realize however, fat cells merely reduce in size. They do not disappear. (Only liposuction will remove fat forever). Clenbuterol also lowers insulin sensitivity so future attempts at losing weight without it may be more difficult over the long term.

There’s been an ongoing myth that Clenbuterol is anti-catbolic but this is completely incorrect. The notion probably stemmed from the fact that Dan Duchaine (one of the founding fathers of drug use for bodybuilders) realized that Clenbuterol releases glycogen from the liver and into the bloodstream, resulting in muscle sparring. But Clen also increases the rate in which protein is burned. And any stimulant will increase adrenaline and cortisol – two very catabolic hormones. So using Clen after a cycle to preserve muscle mass is the WORST thing you can do. Still, Internet gurus and the like continue to parrot this outdated notion of Clenbuterol’s supposed. Anti-catabolic effects. It just isn’t so. But as a fat burner, it rules.

For competitive bodybuilders, Clen is a necessary “evil.” One cannot compete in the world of single digit bodyfat without in unless you’re a complete genetic freak. And even the genetic freaks use it to get leaner still.
